Damage to crops in Maharashtra due to unseasonal rains

State Government of Maharashtra has reported that total area of crop damage (more than 33%) due to unseasonal rainfall in the month of October-November, 2019, is 94.53 lakh hectares.  Approximately, 103.52 lakh farmers have been affected.

Performance of Agricultural Schemes

As per the erstwihile Planning Commission’s estimates based on the survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) in 2011-12,  25.7% of rural population is living below the poverty line (BPL) including farm and non-farm rural population.

Expenditure on PM-KISAN Yojana

As on 30-11-2019, around 7.6 crore farmers in the country have been granted benefit under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana’. As on 30-11-2019 an amount of around Rs.36,000 crores has been disbursed under the Scheme.

As per the response received from the States, National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform is working properly and sufficient speed of internet connectivity has been provided to e-NAM mandis. The Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers’ Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India has passed an Order for winding up the Adarsh Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., Ahmedabad and has appointed a Liquidator for the purpose under the provisions of the MSCS Act, 2002 (& Rules made thereunder) today.

High Level Committee for North East States under PM-KISAN meets to consider proposals from Meghalaya on land use validation in the State for identification of beneficiaries

The High Level Committee constituted to decide on alternate implementation mechanism for eligibility of the farmers in North East States where land ownership rights are community based met in New Delhi today under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar to consider the proposals received from the Government of Meghalaya.

Zero Budget Natural Farming

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research initiated a study on Evaluation of Zero Budget Natural Farming practices in Basmati/ coarse rice-wheat system from Rabi 2017 at 4 locations namely Modipuram, Pantnagar, Ludhiana, Kurukshetra .    Also as per information available, the details of States practicing ZBNF are as follows: Karnataka – has initiated implementation of ZBNF on pilot basis in an area of 2000 ha in each of the 10 Agro Climatic Zones of the State through the respective State Agriculture/ horticulture Universities as demonstrations/ Scientific experimental trials in farmer’s fields and in the research stations of the concerned universities.

Adoption of Integrated Organic Farming System by States

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram has developed One acre Integrated Organic Farming System (IOFS) models under the scheme All India Network Programme on Organic Farming (AI-NPOF).

Use of Modern Technology for Assessing Damage to Crops

The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, through Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre (MNCFC) had carried out pilot studies for Optimization of Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) in various States involving 8 agencies/ organizations during Kharif 2018 and Rabi 2018-19 under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

Damage to crops due to Heavy Rains and Floods

The Government of India has constituted IMCTs for 15 States viz. Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Nagaland.

Over 18 Lakh Farmers registered under PM KISAN MAAN DHAN YOJANA: Shri Narendra Singh Tomar

With a view to provide social security net for the Small and Marginal Farmers (SMF) as they have minimal or no savings to provide for old age and to support them in the event of consequent loss of livelihood, the Government has launched a new Central Sector Scheme, namely, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan-Dhan Yojana (PM-KMY).

27.77 lakh hectares covered under organic farming in the country: Union Agriculture Minister

A total area of 27.77 lakh hectares is covered under organic farming in the country under Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) and 3rd party certification. Government of India has been encouraging organic farming in the country through the dedicated schemes namely Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY- Centrally Sponsored scheme, in all states & UTs) and Mission Organic Value Chain Development of North East Region (MOVCDNER -Central Sector scheme for North Eastern Region).

Six more states selected for promoting pulses and oilseeds cultivation: Shri Narendra Singh Tomar

The Government is implementing the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) – Oilseeds and Oil Palm to increase production of oilseeds and domestic availability of edible oils. The NFSM–(OS&OP) is under implementation in 29 States and has three subcomponents namely, Oilseeds, Oil palm and Tree Borne Oilseeds (TBOs).

Government has been promoting organic farming under the dedicated scheme of Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) which encourages all kinds of chemical free farming systems including Zero budget Natural Farming.

Government encourages use of Bio-Fertilizers over Chemical Fertilizers: Union Agriculture Minister

Government of India has been encouraging use of bio fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers through State Governments Including in district Gopalganj of Bihar under various schemes/ programmes, viz: Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER), National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm (NMOOP), National Food Security Mission (NFSM).

Farmers Clubs

Farmers’ Clubs (FCs) promoted by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) are grass root level informal fora organized by the rural branches of banks, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), etc. The programme is being implemented for the mutual benefit of the banks and the farmers.

India to host the 8th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics in New Delhi

The 8th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS-VIII) will be organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in New Delhi from 18th to 21st November 2019. Addressing the media here today, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra DG ICAR & Secretary DARE informed that the conference will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and Chief Guest will be Bill Gates.
